Self-Scheduled Exams and Final Exam Information for Faculty

Back to Provost and Dean of the Faculty Announcements

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

As we approach the final exam period, we write to remind you of relevant policies, deadlines, and available options for final exams.

Grade Policies

  • Grading policies are found in .
  • All coursework must be completed by the last day of classes (no later than 5 p.m.) to allow time for grading and student preparation.
  • Each course (with the exception of senior seminars) should include one cumulative or integrative assignment or examination, due at the time scheduled by the registrar.
  • Students are expected to take final examinations at their scheduled times. In the event that a student has three examinations in a single day, faculty are asked to accommodate reasonable requests for rescheduling.
  • Faculty are asked to notify a student’s administrative dean if the student does not appear for a scheduled final examination.

Grade Deadlines

  • Senior grades due: Monday, May 11, at 9 a.m.
  • All other grades due: Tuesday, May 19, at 9 a.m.

Final Exam Options

Faculty may determine the most appropriate format for their course:

  • In-class examination (held at the registrar-scheduled time)
  • Take-home examination (due at the registrar-scheduled time and referencing the Honor Code)
  • Self-scheduled examination (offered during the exam period with required faculty participation in proctoring)

Faculty responsibilities extend through the conclusion of the exam period; accordingly, instructors should remain available to students until all course requirements are complete.
